An external specialist costs more than their fee

When a task is handed over to a person, usually only the price of their work is counted. For a solopreneur, this is not enough.

The full cost of dependency includes:

  • search and selection;
  • context transfer;
  • control and re-explanations;
  • risk of error;
  • risk of departure or unavailability;
  • loss of momentum;
  • dependency on someone else's motivation and schedule;
  • loss of a part of one's own competence if the task is completely outsourced.

AI tools have a different economics: you can give them dozens and hundreds of iterations without social friction and without the risk of the contractor suddenly disappearing.

This does not mean that people are always worse. This means you need to compare not the "specialist's rate" and the "AI subscription price", but the full cost of dependency.

From this follows a related principle: the solopreneur accumulates competencies instead of outsourcing them.
