Leaving the old market can open up a new one

Leaving the old market can open up a new one

The phrase "you are cutting off part of the market" often implies that the market structure is unchangeable. This is not always the case.

If AI and new processes allow a single person to do work that previously required a team, the very economics of the category change.

Then a solopreneur does not have to try to serve the old market by corporate rules. They can create a new class of offerings with a different cost structure, speed, and execution framework.

In this sense, abandoning tasks that require a permanent team may not be a weakness, but a filter: the solopreneur looks for areas where their autonomy creates an advantage.

This is close to the logic of blue oceans: you do not necessarily have to win the competition in an existing category if you can change the value configuration itself.

AI is especially important here because it turns a single person into an organization and constantly pushes the boundary of tasks available to a single person.
